A T last week's meeting of Sheffield City Council, the transport committee were criticized for seeking approval for a motion opposing a plan of Sheffield United Tours, Ltd., to operate tours within the city boundary. It was also revealed that the transport department was to seek permission to operate tours.
alr. L. Farris said that S.U.T. did not propose to pick up or drop passengers. so it could not be argued that they would harm the corporation's services. The corporation had a right to a monopoly in the city for ordinary transport services, but not for tours, which they had not operated.
Cllr. E. Scott urged that the public should not be told the corporation's intention in operating tours themselves. as S.U.T. would get to know, and they had only one interest—to make a profit
Aid. E. G. Bearcroft said the transport department did not like anyone else to show the initiative, enterprise and determination which it lacked, otherwise it would have taken the opportunity to run such tours before.
The motion was approved.
