A FATHER AND son from Craigavon have been ordered to pay £123,259 under a confiscation order for running an illegal tachograph centre.
Raymond Pedlow and his son Barry were made the subject of the order under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 during a hearing at Craigavon Crown Court.
The hearing followed a joint investigation by the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) and the Driver & Vehicle Agency (DVA). Lurgan-based Pedlow
Tachograph Centre had lost its licence to install or calibrate tachograph equipment in 2006 but continued to operate.
During the joint operation, invoices were seized for the period March 2006 to October 2010 and about 35 hauliers provided statements.
In November, Raymond Pedlow was sentenced to two years six months, suspended for three years, for illegally operating the centre. On the same day, Barry Pedlow was sentenced to an
immediate custodial sentence of one year three months in custody and one year three months on licence for installing or calibrating the equipment.
Both were jointly charged under the common law offence of conspiracy to defraud.
Summing up
It emerged during the
investigation that 1,100 vehicles had tachograph equipment fitted or calibrated illegally by the firm, bringing it an income of more than £120,000.
