Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A helpline has been set up for UK truck drivers who are attacked in France — but so far no one has used it.

The Road Haulage Association says it did not even know of the service, which was launched a month ago by the Government's Meat and Livestock Commission following ambushes of British lorries.

The commission has asked meat and livestock exporters to provide details of consignments being sent to France. It contacts the British Embassy with a list of trucks travelling to France every week and gives drivers a phone number to call if they are attacked.

The RHA has received a letter from Transport Secretary Malcolm Rifkind saying that the French government has promised to uphold the law by taking action against those who are found responsible for attacks on British drivers.
