I read with interest the feature on "The Republic of Ireland" in the August 15, 1975 issue of the Commercial Motor which received on my return from annual leave.
I understand that prior to the publishing of that issue your representative called here, but was unable to gain admittance as our offices were closed as usual during annual holidays.
In order to put the record straight, I should be grateful if you would afford me space in your esteemed periodical to give the following facts : The Road Transport Organisation is the only Irish road transport association based in Dublin with a permanent office and full-time staff. It is the only national association of road carriers appearing in the current Irish telephone directory.
The Road Transport Organisation is the only association of Irish licensed carriers which is a nominating body to Seanad Eireann on the Industrial and Commercial Panel.
The Road Transport Organisation, founded in 1956 and re-constituted in 1963, enjoys full official recognition in Ireland and overseas.
Mr Laurence Lynch, director general of the Road Transport Organisation, has been an official Irish delegate at European Conference of Ministers of Transport (ECMT) and European Economic Community (EEC) Transport Symposia and Conferences in Europe and Ireland.
