Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TWENTY-FOUR men, Including two shop stewards, have accepted voluntary redundancy at the Birmingham Containerbase — only a few days after returning to work after a 16-week-long Industrial dispute.

The Containerbase reopened on Monday last week. Management and the Transport and General Workers Union agreed that redundancies would be necessary because it was expected that a large volume of traffic had been lost.

Traffic returned

A spokesman for Containerbase told CM this week that since the Perry Barr base had opened again for business quite a lot of its old traffic had in fact returned.

"But we will have to wait and see if this trend continues into the New Year until we can make any decision on reinstating these redundant men."
