Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The Concorde high-pressure hotor cold-water cleaner introduced by Applied Chemicals operates at five times the pressure of a conventional steam cleaner 500 p.s.i. as against 100 p.s.i. and at a water-and-detergent pressure temperature of 160deg F is claimed to give the same performance as a steam cleaner without the problem of the parts being cleaned being shrouded in steam. It is pointed out by Applied Chemicals that this temperature is quite adequate when combined with suitable detergents to penetrate and emulsify heavy grease and carbonized oil.

Automatic burner ignition is incorporated in the Concorde which is an oil-fired unit and can be made operational within 60 seconds. The cleaner has a pair of wheels just forward of the centre line and a castor wheel at the rear so that it is fully mobile.

Water, detergent and fuel tanks are integral with the body of the cleaner, capacities being 20gal, 5gal and 8gal respectively. With 8gal of fuel a running time of 5 hours is possible and the water tank allows for 10min of running time if the mains water supply to the unit fails.

An electric supply of 220/250V is required to operate the unit and while the burner has an 0,33 hp motor for the fuel there is a 1 hp single-phase motor for the water. The water pump is a twin-piston unit fitted with easily-replaceable cylinder sleeves and water consumption is 120gal per hour. A fuel consumption of 1.6gal per hour is claimed and when operating with detergents, running costs are said to be only 4s per hour.

Virtually any type of cleaning chemical compound or solvent can be used with the machine and at a touch of a switch the detergent supply can be by-passed and the hot or cold-water, still at 500 p.s.i., used to blast off dirt and grease. When used cold or without detergent costs are obviously reduced.

Overall dimensions of the unit are 5ft 2in. long, 2ft 8in, wide and 2ft 8in. deep and the net weight is 4481b. The standard model is supplied with 30ft of high-pressure hose.
