New firm seeks licence to take over the work of William Martin Oliver, whose directors are awaiting retrial. Michael Jewell reports.

REVILO LOGISTICS, a new company formed to take over the business of William Martin Oliver & Partners, has had consideration of its 0-licence applications adjourned until September.

The firm appeared before North Western Traffic Commissioner Beverley Bell to request new international licences for 59 vehicles and 112 trailers in the North EasternTrafficArea and for eight vehicles and 75 trailers in the North Western region.

In both cases these operating centres were used by Martin Oliver & Partners before its licences were revoked in June.

The firm's three partners, William Martin, and Marion and Stuart Oliver — who were also banned by Bell — are currently awaiting a retrial in the Crown Court on allegations that they conspired with 70 drivers to falsify tachographs. This follows an ear lier trial in which the jury failed to reach any verdicts (CM 8 July).

The firm has also appealed to the Transport Tribunal against the TC's ruling.

The directors of Revilo —'01iver' spelt backwards — are Stephen Armstrong, Lea Riggs. and Stuart Oliver's wife Katherine.

Appearing for the company, Graham Quigley said he hoped Katherine Oliver would convince the TC that she was "a new broom sweeping clean".

Adjourning the hearing until 7 September, Bell said the question was whether this was a proper 'arm's length' transaction, or whether it was a phoenix application designed solely to circumvent her orders.

Armstrong had convictions against him from 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001 and Bell warned that she was unlikely to grant the applications if he remained a director.
