THE Fire Service, local authority associations
and other bodies, together with members of the public, have asked the Home Office to tighten controls on vehicles carrying naphtha, acids and gases, said Mr. Roy Jenkins, the Home Secretary, in the Commons.
He pointed out that the carriage by road of a number of dangerous substances, including petroleum naphtha, coal-tar naphtha and certain gases was already subject to statutory control. The Standing Advisory Committee on Dangerous Substances was considering how best to extend these controls to other substances, added Mr. Jenkins, but he had no more news about the progress being made.
