DAF HAS announced details of its Euro-6 engines, which it says will go into production in early 2013.

In order to comply with the legislation, which comes into force on 31 December 2013, its 12.9-litre Paccar MX-13 engine will combine exhaust gas recirculation with selective catalytic reduction. The engines will feature common rail technology and a variable geometry turbocharger. Power ratings will remain unchanged.

The Euro-6 engines will have a B10 engine design life of 1 million miles. Mercedes-Benz UK has appointed dealer Northside Truck & Van to fill the void left by H&L Garages, which folded last year. The expansion sees Northside expand from four sites across West and South Yorkshire to seven covering East and North Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire. H&L Garages lost the MercedesBenz franchise six days before entering administration last year.

DDM Haulage Ltd has entered administration, appointing turnaround specialist Refresh Recovery on 23 March. The Rochdale, Lancashire, firm operates from a 10,000ft2 premises on the Shawclough Trading Estate and runs a mixed fleet including LCVs, low-loaders and 45ft curtainsiders. The firm was set up in March 2010 and is run by directors Brenda and Damien Whitbread. The directors of DDM were unavailable for comment as CM went to press.

The prosecution of a lorry driver facing trial over the death of a cyclist has been halted, after the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) offered no evidence. LGV driver Simon Weatherley was due to stand trial last month at Snaresbrook Crown Court in London. He had been arrested and charged with careless driving following the death of 28-year-old cyclist Daniel Cox after a collision with a lorry at Dalston Junction on 2 February 2011. The Metropolitan police confirms the case has been withdrawn following the decision. The case will go to inquest.

Police are investigating an incident in Carmarthenshire on 30 March, involving vehicles from DHL Supply Chain, Hancock Bros and a third, as yet unnamed, haulier. Gregorz Andrej Krzenski, 26, a lorry driver from Swansea, died in hospital after the accident, which took place on the A40 at Pengawse Hill, near Whitland at about 5.50am. DHL Supply Chain says: “We extend our sympathies to the bereaved’s family.”
