Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A Cleveland haulage firm which had failed to tax vehicles on international work as a "protest vote" has lost its appeal against the revocation of its licence for 67 vehicles and 20 trailers.

The company's failure to pay vehicle excise duty, which had resulted in two convictions and a report from Kent Police, related to five vehicles which were being used on international work (CM 7-13 December 2000).

Patrick Sadd, for the firm, argued before the Tribunal that the DTC should have drawn a distinction between the non-pay

ment of VED as a protest ar non-payment as a result of evr sion or oversight.

Rejecting that argument, ti Tribunal said that once it we established that the partner were not paying VED on the international vehicles becalm they did not want to, then it we open for the DTC to conclut that their ear duct amounted 1 evasion.

The non-pal ment of VEDwhether becaur of a prate: which resulted the commissir of a crimin offence, or as result of tax evi. sion—could result in a loss repute, according to ti Tribunal. It believed it had her entirely proper for Bell to con chicle that if she allowed if partners to retain their repel she would be condoning "a illegal method of protest ar evasion".
