The Seatyres Group and the Hills Tyres Group have merged their tyre distribution interests in a new holding company, South England Tyre Service, which will form the largest independent and privately owned tyre distribution organization in the UK. The merged Group will control sales and service branches covering the whole of the south of England. These will continue to operate under the same local management. The main companies in the Group will continue trading under the names: Seatyres (South Eastern Tyres): Invicta Tyres; Southern Tyres: Hills Tyres: Chapman's Tyres: Truro Tyre. The directors of Henlys Ltd. have announced that they have acquired the shares of the long established Coventry motor distributors and retailers, S. H. Newsome and Co. Ltd., distributor for Triumph, Jaguar, Daintier and Bond cars and Leyland light commercial vehicles. Mr. S. H. Newsome. who founded the business in 1922. has decided to retire from executive office owing to ill health. His brother, Mr. A. J. Newsome, has also decided to relinquish his directorship.

Austin Crompton Parkinson Electric Vehicles Ltd. has disposed of its interest in the share capital of Stacatruc Ltd. to Clark Equipment Co. which already owns the remaining interest. Austin Crompton Parkinson. already the biggest manufacturer of electric road vehicles in the world, will continue its activities in the further development and expansion of the electric road vehicle business from its factory at Leicester and its new factory at Tredegar, Monmouthshire,

CUM MINS

Cummins Engine Co. Ltd. has reported a 100 per cent increase in profits and a 16 per cent jump in sales in the first quarter of this year, compared with 1967. Sales at £37.916,000 are up £5.125.000, while net earnings for the period are expected to be £1,333,000 compared to £679.000, the Columbus, Indiana, a.g.m. was told. "Despite uncertainties in the general European economy", an improvement of 13 per cent in international sales in 1968 was expected.

Thos. W. Ward Ltd., of Albion Works, Sheffield, has acquired the entire issued share capital of Barron and Crowther Ltd., of Eastleigh. Hants. manufacturer of wire drawing machinery and accessories, including its two wholly owned subsidiaries. Barcro-Olympic Stranders Ltd.. and Barron and Crowther Export S.A. of Lausanne. Switzerland, which is the overseas marketing company for the group.

GOODYEAR

Goodyear Tyre and Rubber Co. (GB) Ltd. 's new industrial rubber products factory at Craigavon. County Armagh. Northern Ireland, will be officially opened by Mr. Anthony Wedgwood Berm. Minister of Technology, on May 15. It will be Goodyear's first plant in Europe to manufacture industrial rubber products exclusively
