SHIMS In South Africa: New South African premises in Johannesburg, the headquarters of Simms Motor Units S.A. (Pty.) Ltd., have been opened by Mr. W. Newland, managing director of Simms Motor Units (International) Ltd.

A.G.I.P. Service Station: The first A.G.I.P. service station was opened in London at midnight on Monday at 196(206 Camden Road, London, N.W.1, and will be run by Phillips Motors.

Ford 110.5m...Froject: The Ford Motor Co. Ltd. is planning to build a £.10.5 m. engineering, research and styling centre at Basildon, Essex. Up to 3,000 people would be employed on the 267-acre site, which it is hoped to have completed by 1966.

In the Family : A.E.C. Ltd. will be one of the five Leyland Motors Corporation companies to exhibit on the same stand at the International Engineering Exhibition which takes place this month. As well as Leyland Motors Ltd„ Standard-Triumph Ltd., Albion Motors Ltd. and Self-Changing Gears Ltd. will also be represented.

Seddon Distributors : Coventry and Jeffs (Cornwall) Ltd. of Treburgie Water, Liskeard. Cornwall, has been appointed spares and service distributors for Cornwall and Devon by Seddon Diesel Vehicles Ltd.

Atkinson London Sub-agent: A second sub-agent has been appointed by Atkinson Vehicles (London) Ltd. It is Road Transport Services (Hackney) Ltd., 14 Andrews Road, E.8, which will cover Essex and some of the north-east London districts.

Perkins Gans in U.S.: The Perkins Group secured a 6.2 per cent share of the number of factory-installed diesel engines fitted in American trucks last year, according to Ward's Automotive Reports; thus the Group almost tripled its share of the market compared with 1961. Perkins is at present supplying vehicle diesels to Diamond T, Dodge, Ford, International Harvester, White and Willys, in addition to units for industrial and ancillary applications.

The Mini with the Mostest!

(Below) Not a transatlantic giant of the highway, but a unique Canadian artic 18 ft.' long and barely 5 ft, high! Mr. Jack Thornewell of Galt, Ontario, had this outfit built after his B.M.C. Mini saloon had been damaged in a crash, and he had the idea of converting the Mini remains into a tractive unit. It has the normal 848 c.c. car engine and the outfit weighs 2,300 lb. unladen, 7,000 lb. gross. B.M.C. calls it the Miniartic : perhaps it has given them
