FIGURES published this week by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders show that total commercial vehicle sales for August were 12.1 per cent higher than for the same month in 1981.

Over the first eight months of this year sales have improved by 6.2 per cent and British manufacturers' share of the market has improved from 69.95 to 70.23 per cent in the same period.

The biggest growth area for British manufacturers was in the 3.5 to 7-ton sector, but sales in the heavy truck sector have lost out to imported vehicles.
