IN THE ROUND of international events devoted to electric vehicle practice and further development, dates fall more thickly than progress in this sector of the auto mative industry would appear to justify. Nonetheless, "Drive Electric Amsterdam 82" is now billed as this year's most important meeting and has attracted specialists from many countries to speak at the three-day conference from October 25 to 28.

Concurrent with the conference to be held at the RAI Congress Centre, Amsterdam, will be an exhibition supported by vehicle builders, component and battery suppliers. Further information may be obtained from the organisers: RAF, Europaplein, 1078 GZ, Amsterdam.

Two weeks before the Dutch conference the Energy Research Council of Aachen University is running a two-day seminar on "Electric energy in urban transport". Speakers at this event, on October 14 and 15, include prominent psv engineers from Daimler-Benz, MAN, Siemens and Varta presenting achievements todate and plans for the future.

Particular reference will be made to the latest method of boost-charging of batteries during the scheduled operating period of German electric buses. In this novel scheme — in operation since July 1982 — the earlier method of changing the trailer-borne battery packs several times during the day has been replaced, for two routes in Dusseldorf, by providing overhead charge points at terminals to supply brief el 015min) power boosts to the battery through roof-mounted collector arms.
