H. A. R. Binney, whose retirement from the post of director-general was announced earlier this year, is to continue to work with BSI as director-general, international. Mr Feilden joined BSI as deputy director-general; he is a former vice-president of the Royal Society, was a member of the Transport Commission's Research Advisory Committee and is now on the council of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
