notice,, from the Ministry of Labour it is pointed out that, at the request of the Road Haulage central Wages Board, a Road Transport Catering and Accommodation Committee has been set up by the Employers' and Workers' organizations to compile a national directory of establishments providing food and accommodation for road-transport workers, the Joint Secretaries being Mr. G. W. Quick Smith and Mr. H. R. Nicholas, Room 350, Coastal Chambers, 15, Elizabeth Street, London, S.W.1. The new committee has also notified us that forms of application for registration in the directory have been posted to all transport cafés, known to be classified as category " B " Catering Establishments, and it is hoped to publish in October the first edition of the directory. Café proprietors catering for road-transport workers who do not receive a form' within the next few days should write to the secretaries. Drivers also should try to persuade caterers to register. GOOD psychology runs counter to class segregation, although there are occasions when the grading of individuals into groups for specific purposes offers a solution of troublesome problems. That is why we think there is the germ of a good idea in a plan put forward by Mr. A. Drysdale Wilson, M.I.A.E., in a paper he mad recently before the Birminghambranch of the Industrial' Transport Association. His scheme is to divide drivers into three groups according to ability, and to attach a distinctive mark to each vehicle, indicating into which group the man at the wheel falls. In the first group would be all competent drivers with accident-free records. The second group would coniprise those who have passed their test, but have not done six months driving after that. Included, too, in this class would be those who, by their behaviour in charge of a vehicle, their accident record, or for some other legitimate reason had been degraded from the first class.
