LATE-REGISTERED 18-tonners are in big demand, with examples with sleeper cabs and the more powerful engines generating the most interest.

"A Daf 65CF 240 will always be more popular than a 65CF 210,but unfortunately they're not that easy to come by," says Nigel Sharp, of Sheffield Daf dealership Chatfields. Mike Finney,of Warrington Mercedes dealership Enza Truckworld,says:"18-tonners with day cabs aren't flying out of the door—it's sleepers that customers seem to want — but buyers will often accept a day cab if the vehicle is less than two years old."

The appeal of a young chassis tends to outweigh the disadvantages of a smaller cab. While recent 18-tonners are strong sellers, residual values of older examples have weakened according to George Alexander, chief editor, cornmercial vehicles, at Glass's Information Services, "CF65 and Volvo's FL6 are examples where, despite late-year chassis enjoying strong demand, trucks on ER. S, and T-plates are attracting little interest," he says.
