Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

of tyre manufacture and distribution was discussed at a recent meeting of the Road Transport Section of Liverpool Chamber of Comnierce. Mr. W. McCready, who presided, directed attention to the present system of distributing tyres for transport vehicles. He complained that, due to variations in. the diameter of different makes of tyre for the same sized Wheels, and the -fact that an operator has no choice as to the 'make of tyre-which he can purchaSe, burst tyres

• were -becoming a frequent octurrence. This, he submitted, was primarily due to the fitting on twin wheels of tyres of different make, •varying in diameter from 2 ins. to 4 ins. As a result, the tyre with the larger diameter. was taking the major weight of the vehicle, whilst its twin wat running comparatively light. Members concurred with these remarks and pointed out that a differ. ence in the diameter was most apparent '• in tyres which had been subject to remoulding. The Section expressed concern at the consequent wastage of rubber which this must occasion, apart from the time last due to burst tyres.

It was agreed that the attention of the Regional Tyre .ontroller he directed to this complaint, and that he be urged to amend the system Of distribution to permit road operators to obtain such Makes of tyre as might !be required to suit -their vehicles.
