Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• An application by H. G. Amfield and Sons, Bridlington, to increase fares on 20 excursions and tours, and one by W. and D. B. Lamb, Mahon, seeking to take ovej the licence held by the former company were both granted by the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners in Leeds last week. Objections to the applications had been lodged by the West Yorkshire Road Car Co Ltd and East Yorkshire Motor Services Ltd.

However, the commissioners stipulated the fares which were to be charged on three of the services and ordered that two other services, Harrogate and Scarborough, be withdrawn.

A second application by H. G. Amfield was only partially successful when it applied to add to an existing tours and excursion licence facilities for the carriage of passengers to bingo halls and other places of entertainment as well as for theatres, which they were already licensed, on any half day.

The commissioners, however, were only prepared to authorise the firm to carry passengers to theatres and bingo halls, this being restricted to Saturday evenings. • Earlier the courts had heard that for some time W. and D. B. Lamb had been operating excursions and tours on behalf of H. G. Amfield under private hire.
