• Calculation of vehicle excise tax on the basis of gross plated weight, for which the Transport Association has been campaigning, has now been accepted as an objective by the national executive council of the Road Haulage Association. The suggestion came from its commercial committee.
The executive board, which supports the committee on this issue, does not think that there is any chance of substituting a consolidated tax on fuel, which some operators favour, especially as EEC countries are generally moving towards gross weight taxation.
