Mr. A. Skill, St. Peter's Street, Radford, Nottingham, a licence for a Nottingham-Manchester express service for Servicemen on week-end leave, the East Midland Licensing Authority reprimanded him for the manner in which facilities had been provided in the past.
It was stated that Mr. Skill had first been asked to run a vehicle to Manchester in 1953. Since then requests for him to do so had become regular. In view of recent court decisions, it was decided to apply, for an express licence instead of running under private hire. It was proposed that the coach would pick up and set down at Hucknail and Watnall RAP. stations.
Mr. A. C. C. Rothera, for the objectors, suggested that the applicants had run in absolute competition with established services.
The Authority stated that any additional facilities required should. be pro
vided by existing operators. It had come as a great shock, he said, to hear of the way Messrs. Skill had deliberately flouted the law. "We shall require from the management assurance that nothing like this will happen again," he added.
GLASGOW TRAM DECISION
ADECISION was taken by Glasgow Corporation last week not to replace the city's obsolete trams. Ur. A. Hood said that it had been made by a substantial majority, but added that the Corporation were not committed to either trolleybuses or oil-engined buses as replacements.
In a report last April, Mr. E. R. L. Fitzpayne, general manager of the transport undertaking, suggested the extension of trolley bus services and the conversion of certain routes to motorbus operation.
