`41 regarding an increase in rates for the road haulage of lime. The Road Haulage Association have requested the British Agricultural Contractors' Association to join them in an approach to the Agricultural Lime Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and B.A.C.A. have appointed Mr. D. C. E. Johns, Mr. A. Julian and Mr. F L. Sabatini to represent lime-spreading operators at any meeting with the Department.

The lime-spreading committee of B.A.C.A. have asked the Ministry whether spreading vehicles and nitrogenous liquor applicators working on the land might run on rebated fuel. The department concerned is inquiring whether a case for submission to the appropriate authorities can be made out.

The Board of Customs and Excise have told the Association that limespreading vehicles cannot be exempted from purchase tax.

NEW ST. HELENS STATION

ANEW bus station and garage may be built in Foundry Street, St. Helens, to replace three other terminals in the town, in addition to providing covered accommodation for municipal buses at present parked in the open in Jackson Street. Plans for the new project are being considered by the corporation, and work is expected to begin soon.
