A MEETING of the S.J.C. Execu tive Committee, on June 1, considered certain matters of interest to the industry. One was a set of Conditions of Carriage arranged by the Liability and Insurance Committee in conjunction with representatives of the Road Panel of the Central Road and Rail Conference, with the ultimate object of issuing such conditions for general adoption by the industry. Legal opinion on these is being obtained.

As regards the Government Haulage. Scheme, a Labour Panel has been set up to deal with labour questions arising "from it. This will, when necessary, it jointly with a similar

Trades Union Panel. .

It was noted that A-Contract licensed vehicles are eligible for hiring to the Ministry, and it was decided to ask ,the latter to admit late application S in bona fide cases. The Ministry would also be asked to take steps to see that traffics carried by A-licensed vehicles should not he carried' by those in the C class when the former were brought. within the Government Scheme.

Consideration was given 'to the . position . of. licence , holders at the

termination of hostilities. We have already referred to certain correspondence which has passed between .'the S.J.C., and the M.O.W.T. on this Matter, and Mr, C. A. Birtehnell, of the M.O.W.T has added 'that the

setting up of the Road haulage Organization does not alter the views expressed in the previous correspon dence from the Ministry. Post-war applications for licences will be dealt with in the light of circumstances at the time when they are made, and will not be governed by diversions of traffit arising out, of shortages of rubber and fuel which no longer exist. 'As regards vehicles outside the Government Scheme, the position' in respect of " Defence Lines " remains undhanged, but that of local and emergency haulage officers would be reviewed by the Ministry when the scheme was coinpletely in operation: Concerning the Panel for Controlled Undertakings, to which we referred last week, one Of the nanies given should have' been Mr. A. J. Wright, not W. "D. Wright.
