• Merseyside PTE is the third Metropolitan Joint Authority to agree to sell its bus company to a management/ employee consortium.
A feasibility study from consultants Coopers and Lybrand recommends the sale as being in the "best interests of passengers and staff".
The sale of the 1,000-vehicle Merseybus company is expected to go ahead in the latter half of the year.
This follows the sale of Yorkshire Rider and Busways to its own staff. Two other metropolitan authorities — South Yorkshire and West Midlands — are under pressure from the DTp to draw up privatisation plans.
