Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A family transport firm in Derbyshire, established for almost 70 years, has been forced into liquidation, blaming high interest payments and falling haulage rates.

Nearly 70 people have been made redundant from Stavelely, Chesterfield-based .1 Pass and Son which ran 40 trucks and 90 trailers. Several drivers have already found jobs with other local transport firms, says company spokesman Jonathan Pass.

He says: "High interest rates and the general state of the industry have forced us out of business. Half our trips are no longer viable."

The Pass family has set up a new operation, J Pass (Commercials). This company will specialise in fleet maintenance and will eventually employ about 10 staff.
