Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Less than five months after Rockwood Holdings acquired the general traffic division of Lowfield Distribution, the company has decided to close four of its transport sites with the loss of more than 230 jobs.

Two of the eight Lowfield sites, in Radlett and Barnsley, will go, along with Rockwood depots in Avonmouth and Tavistock.

This follows last month's decision that several former Bees transport sites were to close (CM 30 November-6 December). Earlier in 1988 Bees was forced to shed around 200 jobs after parent company Rockwood decided to shed the firm's casual customer base.

Group managing director Douglas Dunbar says the closures are "intended to be a one-off exercise".

Following the latest re organisation, Rockwood Holdings depots will form two tiers of primary and secondary stockholding centres. The six main stock points will be based at Brighouse, Enfield, Harthill, Newport, Tamworth and Belfast.
