MEE 30-cwt. model produced by Dennis Bros., Ltd., Guildford, is in use on quite a number of large estates, lint a uew type of body has just been produced for mounting on this particuler type of chassis, and a vehicle in which this is incorporated has recently been delivered to Mr. C. Willoughby,
estate agent to Mrs. Austin, of Totteridge, Hertfordshire.
Although the vehicle can be used for general estate purposes, it has been particularly constructed for dealing with light cattle scaling up to about 10 cwt. For this purpose a strong hinged extension is fitted to the tailboard, thus form lag a ramp up which the animals can easily be led into or out of the body interior. When in the vertical position the tailboard is held by suitable pins, and the extension then falls behind it, being rigidly secured to prevent rattling. When the tailboard is lowered it is secured by chains, and, in addition, two wooden struts are used to give support to the ramp where the extension piece joins the tailboard.
Tim interior of the body is divided into two by a detachable partition, the rear and of which is braced against the tailboard when the latter is raised. An additional board seat is situated behind the front bulkhead, and this is arranged to hinge vertically when not required. A small pair of steps is provided for occasional use in getting into and out of the vehicle.
The body has high sides and is protected by a canvas cover carried on hoopsticks, which are not only detachable but also adjustable. This is a useful feature, for the overall height of the vehicle can be lowered to an appreciable extent, thus permitting it to pass through entrances having a low clearance. Normally,Ithe cover gives a fit. clearance inside the body.
The body is 8 ft. 3 ins, long behind the driver's seat and 6 ft. wide, the fixed sides being 2 ft. 6 ins. high. The machine is finished in an olive green with black mudguards, and the fabric sheet is of a dark brown colour.
