Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I AM WRITING you this letter to let you know the disgraceful way I have been treated by one of your advertisers, Avon Transmission, of Wakefield.

I bought a reconditioned gearbox off them in July 1983, which cost £800. It had twelve months' guarantee; it only lasted me about 15 weeks before one of the gears went. I rang them up to ask if someone could come down to see it, but they suggested I took it up there to them, so that's what I did.

After they had a look at it, they said it was not a guarantee job, it was a fault on my part, but I know it wasn't. I am the only one who drives my lorry so I'm sure it was not my fault. I could not leave it there, as they had the box out of the lorry. It took them two days to get it ready and back in the lorry; a week after, I had a bill off them for the amount of £474.10.

I rang them up to say I thought it was ridiculous, but they said they would send me a credit note for six hours, which they did. I still would not pay, so they sent me another small credit note along with a letter to say if I did not pay within seven days they would put it into the hands of their credit company.

I am sending them a cheque less the credit notes, and I am deducting the cost of my fuel for going up there. So I thought you would like to know about this; I hope I will hear something from you.

J. E. DAVIES (MRS) Mrs Davies has since informed us that Avon Transmission has refunded in full the amount she paid for the repair, which seems to us far from disgraceful treatment. — Editor.
