SOUTH YORKSHIRE PTE is proposing to introduce a simplified fares structure to improve efficiency and speed up boarding times.
If the proposal, which has been accepted by the County Council's ruling Labour group, is implemented, the number of stages and fare values will be reduced.
Some fares will rise slightly and some will be lowered.
At present SYPTE fares start at 3p for up to half a mile and rise in penny stages to a maximum of 30p for 22 miles.
The new scale starts at 5p for up to two miles and rises in 5p stages to 25p for 22 miles,
