Tesco makes progress on Andover RDC plans
A REGIONAL distribution centre (RDC) that Tesco hopes to lease in Andover has been granted planning permission by Test Valley Borough Council.
Despite objections from residents who were worried about the increased number of trucks using the former airfield site, developer Goodman has been given the green light for the project, which will include a one million sq ft warehouse.
The supermarket chain hopes to use the facility as its regional RDC, and is likely to close its Weybridge, Surrey, distribution centre with the loss of 700 jobs.
Tesco corporate affairs manager Juliette Bishop says there are still some details to be finalised before the plan is given the final go-ahead. "Tesco will be examining this agreement once completed. But it is likely to be some time before Tesco makes any decision on the next steps."
