Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

EV1DENCE of a major increase in the ,-1-4 volume of storage and delivery work done for customers was instrumental in securing an A-licence variation for Inter-City Transport and Trading Co., Ltd., Cumbernauld, at Glasgow, last week.

For Inter-City, Mr. James Taylor said that the major customers were operating on the basis of storage in, and delivery from, bulk. .The eompany had secured additional storage accommodation, giving 250,000 cu. ft. capacity, and had doubled their storage space.

Typical increases by customers, on the basis of consecutive years, were 3001,500 tons, 80-120 tons and 180-250 tons. The average handling from stores had been doubled, The variation of the A licence for two vehicles related entirely to collection and delivery work and would not affect other operators, said Mr. A. Carroll, managing director.

Objecting for the British Transport Commission, Mr. Howitt sought to limit the operation to specific towns rather than to a 40-mile radius. Mr. Carroll agreed to this.

He offered an assurance that there would be no increased handling of goods by trunk services.
