Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

jWhere to Buy your Supplies.

" C,M.S." (Birmingham).—You can obtain towerwagon outfits from Messrs. Rawlinson and Sons, Audley Range, Blackburn.

" F.B.F." (Cardiff).--You can obtain petrol pumps suitable for pumping petrol out of barrels into the tank of a vehicle from W. H. Willcox and Co. Ltd., 23, Southwark Street, S.E.

Snercold Tanks Cannot Explode.

A safety device for fitting to all kinds of fuel storagetanks for the purpose of preventing their explosion, if subjected to excessive heat, is manufactured by the Safety Non-Explosive Reservoir Co., Ltd., Snercold Engineering Works., Hampton Wick. The device, when fitted, absolutely overcomes the danger through the possible explosion of any kind of open or closed. receptacle in which highly inflammable liquid is stored, such as petrol, alcohol, ether, benzine, methylated spirit, paraffin, etc., etc. It is of very simple construction and cannot get out of order ; moreover, it can be fitted to any existing cans or tanks, no matter what size or shape. The primary feature consists of a fusible plug and a, protected wire-gauze sleeve which takes effect on the familiar "Davy" lamp principle.

The composition of the fusible plug is such that it will melt at 157 degrees Fahrenheit. For use in hot climates, however, a higher melting point, viz., 196 degrees Fahrenheit, is provided for. It will thus be evident that, immediately any abnormal temperature comes in contact with the plug, the alloy is softened and expelled, and the internal pressure of the tank being relieved prevents any possibility of an explosion's occurring. We are informed that where the Snercold device is fully installed, rebates off the fire insurance premiums are obtainable.

The company also specializes in storage-tank installation for garages and will be pleased to give quotations.

The Snercold fitting has many other applications, and may be fitted to gas compressors, petrol pumps, and pipe-line connections, and, where fitted, there is no possibility of a back-fire or flame reaching the main supply tank.

Our illustration shows a " Snercold" explosionpreventing device and a welded steel non-explosive storage tank.

Fibre and Vulcanite Specialities.

The uses to which fibre can be applied in the automobile industry are, of course, very numerous, and include such component parts as gear wheels, cams, contact breakers, joints for petrol, oil and water pipes, switch. handles, etc., etc.

We have recently received a notification from Messrs. Arthur Cart and Co., 303:1, Camberwell Road, London, S.E., that they have suitable plant for turning out all kinds of vulcanized-fibre accessories and will be pleased to quote for any special application of this production.

The company has a large stock of vulcanized fibre sheets, rods, tubes, washers, and rings of all sizes. In a,ddtion to hard and flexible vulcanite, it also supplies ebonite, Chatterton's compound, gutta-percha, and bala.ta. belting, "Ambroleum" Gear Lubricant.

We have again been reminded by that old-established oil-refining establishment, the Stern Sonneborn Oil Co., Ltd., Royal London House, Finsbury Square, E.C., of its latest production " Ambroleum."

This is marketed specially for use in gear sets. It is claimed that the lubricant combines all the advantages, and avoids all the drawbacks, of oil or ordinary grease used for gear lubrication, and its properties are such as to cause it to cling to all parts of the gears, no matter at what speed the machine may be running. It is of a very viscous nature, but has no injurious effect on metals, and also prevents the possibility of channeling or scoring of the gears. The consistency of the lubricant also eliminates the undesirable possibility of leakage occurring.

When a sufficient quantity has been put into either the gear or differential box, it is claimed that it lasts much longer than any other grease ; there is thus need for but little attention ; moreover, it is only necessary to fill the easing halfway.

The illustration herewith, a reproduction from a photograph. of actual working conditions, serves well to show the clinging nature of Ambrolouni.
