Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ONE of the major links for road freight traffic between Ireland and europe has been described by a pro-road group as a "goat track".

Transport Action Scotland has used these terms to decry the A75 Stranraer-Gretna road which handles lorries travelling to and from the Stranraer Larne ferries.

The route, a singlecarriageway toad, carries over 20,000 vehicles every day, many of them heavy lorries from the ferries.

Action

A local pressure group, the A75 Action Group, has added its weight to the opposition to the route's inadequacy by displaying photographs of accidents along the route.

Dumfries and Galloway chief -constable Alexander Campbell has pointed out that the accident record for the A75 is far worse than that for the A74 Glasgow-Carlisle road which has attracted more publicity.

He said there were 137 accidents on 36 miles on the A74 during a set period last year, whereas there were 274 on the 100 miles of A75.
