Despite heavy rain at the start, at lelle Vue, Manchester, on Sunday, of the ourth annual Trans-Pennine run to Iarrogate, a record entry of 180 vintage ommercial vehicles set off on the 64-mile ourney to Harrogate, Yorkshire, and were heered on their way by hundreds of nthusiasts. The run is organized by the gorth Midlands and Yorkshire Sections of le Historic Commercial Vehicle Club, Lochdale Transiclub and the Crossley >mnibus Society and this year was ponsored by the Yorkshire Evening Post. Vehicles entered included over 100 buses, any of which used to operate with ompanies and municipal concerns in ,ancashire and Cheshire. Interesting entries mong the over 50 commercial vehicles rere a 1907 White agricultural steam car, a 919 Leyland van, a 1936 mobile post dice registered GPO 1, a 1916 T-Ford 'an, the first prototype Morris commercial ruck dated 1924, and a 1926 Albion lorry ecently returned from New Zealand where t had been entered in a rally.

The award for the greatest overall tchievement in the rally went to T. W. 'earson, of Ripon, who suffers from :hronic arthritis but who none the less has 'estored a Morris commercial truck TX milt in 1927 and which was once used by he 62nd Field Brigade of the Royal krtillery and later sold to Woods Transport )f Richmond in 1930. This firm employed it )n local haulage up to World War II and dr Pearson bought it in 1969 and has :onverted the controls so that despite his lisablement he is able to drive it. The )ersonnel carrier body is original and the orry has a 15 hp side-valve engine, hree-speed gearbox, magneto ignition, gravity fuel feed and no front brakes.

Concours d'elegance winner was P. F. lincoln with a Leyland Lion LT 1 built in 1930.
