WELL-KNOWN as manufacturers of shock absorbers and suspension controls, Armstrong Patents Ltd. has extended its range of equipment to include hydraulic trolley jacks. Four models are available, the Si 150 which has a 1.5-ton capacity, Si 300 a 3-ton capacity, SJ 500 a 5-ton capacity, and SJ 1000 a 10-ton capacity.

The smallest in the range SJ 150, has a removable handle to facilitate easy stowage in the boot of a car, or service truck. The saddles are painted white for easy location and by means of a foot pedal are raised to the underside of the chassis or axles in a matter of seconds.

All models' front wheels are larger than the rear wheels to cope with uneven floor heights.

All jacks are offered with six months' guarantee, and are backed with a full range of spares. Delivery is ex stock.

Timing aid OF AMERICAN design but imported into the UK by E. P. Barrus Ltd., is an invaluable aid when timing an engine which has the necessary timing marks. This is called a timing light or stroboscope. This is how the neon timing light works: first make sure that the engine is warmed up and is able to idle, and disconnect the spark

plug lead from No. 1 plug. Insert one end of the twin lead which is attached to the timing light into the plug lead, with the other end connect to the spark plug which completes the circuit.

Start up the engine and allow to idle, direct the timing light which will be illuminated when the engine starts, down on to the timing mark usually found on the crankshaft pulley. This mark lines up with a pointer usually found on the timing cover and if the engine timing is correct, the scribed line on the pulley will appear to be stationary, and if not, all that is required is to slacken the retaining bolt on the distributor and by advancing or retarding the distributor accordingly the timing marks can be lined up. Marketed by E. P. Barrus (Concessionaires) Ltd., 12-16 Brunel Road, Acton, London W3. Price: £3 16s.

Built for docks work

DESIGNED for handling large standard size containers within dock areas, a four-wheel trailer which can carry 20 tons has been added to the Tollbridge range.

It has a robust chassis comprising an outer rectangular frame of rolled steel channel with intermediate longitudinal channel members and lateral members to provide more than adequate support to the 1.25 in. Cupri.nol impregnated timber deck.

Running gear consists of four solid-tyred wheels and braking on the front wheels is operated by a lever on the drawbar. Containers can be loaded on to the trailer by forklift truck, or sling arrangement -due to raised wooden slats fixed to the deck.

Made by: Tollbridge Trailers Ltd., Lymington, Hampshire.

Price: £874 ex works.
