Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

rtOMPLEMENTARY to its g-matic load

sensing valve for air-pressure braking systems, an hydraulic load-sensing valve has been announced by Clayton Dewandre Co. Ltd., Lincoln.

The unit is mounted on the frame of the vehicle and fluid is supplied to the axle brakes through the valve, the control shaft of which is linked to the axle. The relay ratio of the valve is therefore varied according to the clearance between the frame and the axle and is responsive to static changes of load.

When the brakes are applied, even lightly, hydraulic pressure acts on the two pistons attached to the ends of the balance beam of the unit and locks the control shaft, so that braking is always proportional to the static load. Axle deflections are absorbed by a sprung knuckle arm of the type fitted to the g-matic system. It also accommodates deflections in excess of the normal travel of the operating arm which is limited by stops.

Ratchet spanners

AFIXED-HEAD ratchet spanner, known as the Husky, and a flexible-head version of this spanner, known as the New Britain, have been announced by John Bedford and Sons Ltd, the former being available with a tin, fin, or +in square drive and the latter with a square drive of fin, or fin. In both cases the ratchet has a 60-tooth gear which engages a 12-tooth pawl and this enables 20 per cent of the torque load to be distributed over the frame of the ratchet.

The flexible head of the New Britain spanner is rotatable up to 180 per cent and the tool is particularly suitable for replacing spark plugs.

Made by: John Bedford and Sons Ltd., Lion Works, Sheffield 3.
