ft/R. MARPLES intends to wait until Lvithe Economic Commission for Europe has considered recommendations about the intensity of direction indicators before he decides what standard should be adopted here.

Any regulations should be international in standard, he said, when Mr. Eric Johnson (Tory, Blackley) asked whether it was really necessary to await international agreement. The real problem was to get an unmistakable signal in bright sunshine and at the same time avoid dazzle at night, he added.

In the Lords, Lord Chesham, Parliamentary Secretary . to the Ministry of Transport, said a study was now being made of the many detailed comments which had been received about proposals for amending the present regulations affecting direction indicators.

He pointed out that these changes would not affect intensity, but standardized indicators' colour as amber. They also called for improved positioning and minimum angles through which the light must be visible.
