C.M.U.A. IMPROVES ITS LICENSING SCHEME.

Manchester Area goods-vehicle licensing scheme, which is operated from the local office of the C.M.U.A., has been redrafted and amended in certain important respects. The principal change is to ensure continuity in membership by making it coincident with the period of the carrier's licence under the Road and Rail Traffic Act, 1933, and the subsequent amending Acts.

The member is not . entitled to terminate membership d the scheme prior to the expiry of his carrier's licence, except after payment of the total fees payable for the currency of the licence. Should a member cease to be a member of the C.M.U.A. he may be deprived of his rights and privileges under the scheme, but without prejudice to the right of the committee to recover the balance of subscriptions for the full membership period.

A and B-licence holders are required to pay E2 2s, on joining the scheme and a similar amount for the first vehicle in any renewal year, and 7s. 6d. for each additional vehicle. In subsequent years of the currency of the licence, the subscription for the first vehicle is El Is. and for each additional vehicle 3s. 9d. The terms for C-licence holders are as follow:— One to five vehicles, El Is.; six to 15 vehicles, a 2s.; 16 to 25 vehicles, ES 3s.; over 25 vehicles, by agreement.

In a circular 40 members, Mr. W. Farnorth (secretary) states that in the past, operators have -relied on the scheme with every confidence. The

services which had been rendered, both legal and clerical, had been possible only by the continuous support of members year by year. If they were to have the same advantages in the future, it was necessary that support should be forthcoming both in the years when their renewals fall due and in the intervening years, when an appearance before the Licensing Authority may not be required.

Fishermen Cry for More Transport.

The Clyde Fishermen's Association has decided to associate with Campbeltown Town Council, in appealing to the Secretary of State for Scotland for adequate transport facilities for landings of fish. CLASS ALTERATION FOR MANCHESTER VEHICLE PARADE.

The commercial vehicle parade, to be held at Belle Vue, Manchester, on Saturday, September 23, will be under the joint auspices of the Manchester and South-East Lancashire Area Committees of the C.M.U.A. At the next meeting of the motor parade committee of the Manchester and SouthEast Lancashire C.M.U.A., consideration will be given to the schedule of classes for the parade. It has been suggested that in view of the lack of competition in certain classes last year, these should be eliminated and that provision should be made for a section for electric vehicles, of which about 200 are in use, mainly by C-licence holders in the city of Manchester.
