An Austin 2-tonner Fully Equipped to Meet all Breakdown Contingencies
AN accompanying illustration shows an Austin 2-tonner built as a breakdown vehicle for use by The Car Mart, Ltd., 141-150, Park Lane, London, W.1.
It is worthy of special mention not only because of its excellent appearance, but because it is so well equipped. It carries a 3-ton salvage crane, a towing device of the same capacity, with a 3-ton salvage bracket for use with cars having particularly,low cowling at the front; adaptors for use with vehicles having independent front-wheel suspension are also available. Then there are extensible and short spring-loaded towing bars, and V-type towing bars for use when either front or rear wheels are lifted from the ground. Smaller equipment includes crowbars, picks, sledge hammer, wedges, chain and rope tackle, heavy-duty hydraulic jacks, extensible flood lights, extensions for adding tail light to a damaged vehicle, hurricane lamps and tire extinguishers.
There are a fixed flood light, a combined tail, reverse and stop light on a raised standard, work bench with vice.
a38 fitted jacks for use under the ends of the chassis members to allow for lifting extremely heavy loads ; fuel, oil and water containers and a first-aid locker. An unusual feature is a special folding track which enables the towing ambulance to be carried in a rigid position when not in use, whilst allowing easy loading and unloading. This last fitting was designed and built at The Car Mart works, and has received much favourable comment.
