Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ncreasing Interest ESPITE the certainty that

in the Use of fuel supplies will be Producer Gas . . . seriously curtailed in the event of this country being involved in war, there is still a lamentable lack of interest being shown in alternative fuels. There is, however, an awakening interest on the part of individual operators, who are trying out producer-gas machines on an experimental basis. Surely the experimental stage has long-since passed, and with such an obviously practical solution of the alternative-fuel problem available, it is difficult to understand why the Government does not give a substantial lead.

Using Alcohol Fuel to Counteract Water in Petrol Tank. .

WHEN V v tank addition

water in the petrol is suspected, the of an alcohol-base fuel will usually put matters right, but it is a practice which should be avoided if possible. The addition of excess alcohol to a petroleum-base fuel, as the ethyl and methyl alcohols are extremely hygroscopic, will tend to absorb moisture from the air. Petrol-alcohol mixtures, in the presence of moisture, have been shown to exert a powerfully corrosive action on copper, aluminium, magnesium and tome plate, unless blended with the greatest care, as with certain proprietary fuels.

AN outstanding feature of 4-1. the trolleybus is its extraordinarily smooth and rapid pick-up from rest. Whilst we appreciate what an asset this is in the speeding-up and maintenance of time schedules, it is a little disconcerting from the point of view of passengers boarding and alighting. We have reason to believe that conductors, who are responsible for the safety of passengers, would not he adverse to a slower get-away.

• Spare Wheels that WHILST it is reassuring to

are Unmanageable VT know that a spare wheel,

Without Assistance. complete with tyre, is safely affixed to the vehicle, the situation may change somewhat when it becomes necessary to use it. It came to our notice recently that, without the careful use of a jack and the assistance of a second person, it was quite impossible

to replace the wheel on a certain make and type of machine. Removal was not so difficult, as the wheel simply fell to the ground when released, but attempts at replacement by the driver alone brought forth some choice remarks, which the vehicle itself did not deserve. This should be a point worth watching by makers.
