(No public sittings in this area will be held from July 31st, to August zeth.) Gazette No. 19 for the Northern Scotland Area reveals the fact that, when the Traffic Commissioners next sit at Aberdeen, the main subject for consideration will be stage-carriage licences, to the applications for which there is Hide opposition. The issue also contains a long list of the names of local operators who have been granted licences.

The sitting on August 14th, at York, of the 'Yorkshire Commissioners should be interesting, for Gazette No. 17 for that area shows that numerous objec tions will be raised to applications to licences, the names of many well-known concerns figuring prominently. The applications received are mostly in respect of excursions.

According to Gazette No. 15 of the North-Western Traffic Commissioners, many applications for licences for tours have been received, which indicates the popularity of this class of service. Crosville Motor Services, Ltd., is a well-known applicant. Numerous applications for licences have been adjourned by the West Midland Traffic Commissioners, most of the representations being made by the Potteries Electric Traction Co., Ltd., for stage-carriage licences. The Birrainghain and Midland Motor Omnibus Co., Ltd., and the Potteries Electric Traction Co., Ltd., share the greater portion of the section of the gazette dealing with licences granted. The Commissioners have refused to back a licence for a service from Blackpool to London, via Wigan, to be operated 15/ Wood Bros. (Blackpool), Ltd. The East Midland Traffic Commissioners have granted nurnerbus licences, notably to the Areersham and District Motor Bus and Eaulag,e Co., Ltd., the City. of Oxford Motor Services, Ltd.. and the Eastern National Omnibus Co., Ltd. Licences have been refused to Premier Line, Ltd., for services between Aylesbury and King's Langley, and London and Aylesbury, whilst Green Line Coaches, Ltd:, has been refused permission to run coaches between London and Riekinansworth, London and Chesham, Harpenden and Great Bookham, and Godstone Green and A considerable part of Gazette No. 17 of the South. Wale's Commissioners is devoted to lists. of names of concerns that have been 'granted licenceS, including the Rhondda Trainways Co., Ltd. This concern has had two refusals, whilst the Commissioners have. declined to permit Aberdare Urban District Council to run five serviees, including tours.

Gazette No. 18 of the Western Corn

missioners shows the Bristol Tramways and Carriage Co., Ltd., the Devon General Omnibus and Touring Co., Ltd., Red and White Services, Ltd., and the Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Co., Ltd., to be among the well-known operators who have been granted licences. Many applications for licences have been received, so that when the Commissioners resume their sittings in September they should be extremely busy.

According to Gazette No. 20 for the Southern Area, numerous long-distance services have been authorized, including one of Blue Belle Motors, Ltd., between London and Bournemouth, and another between London and Southsea, whilst Highways, Ltd., has been

granted licences for services between London and Plymouth and London and Ilfracombe. G. Ewer and Co:, Ltd., has been permitted to, operate LondonSouthsea and London-Paignton services, whilst Main Lines, Ltd., has also been allowed to cover the LondonBournemouth route.route.

The forthcoming sittings of the South-Eastern Commissioners should be interesting, for, as on past occasions, there will be many objections to the granting of licences, notably by the Southern Railway Co. Excursions and tours will be the chief matter for consideration. Thomas Tilling, Ltd., Autocar Services, Ltd., Maidstone and District Motor Services, Ltd., East Kent Road Car Co., Ltd., and Southdown Motor Services, Ltd., are among the well-known concerns that have been granted licences, according to the latest gazette to be published.

Applications for licences for a large number of services to seaside resorts have been received and will be dealt with in due course.
