A. B. Fuller, 70, founder and chairman of Taskers of Andover 11932) Ltd.. has announced his retirement. Mr. Fuller has been a working director of the company for 42 years. In 1927 he became assistant managing director of Taskers of Andover Ltd. and persuaded the company's board to devote the entire works production to building trailers. In 1932 he and his family purchased the company: it then employed 23 people as compared to the present 700. Appointments held by Mr. Fuller outside Taskers include the chairmanship of many committees of the SMMT and the presidency of the road Locomotive Society. His son is a director and general manager of Taskers Trailers Ltd.

J. Findley has been elected president of the MechaniCal Handling Engineers Association in succession to G. F. B. Harvey. Mr. Wright has been deputy manager and engineer of Sunderland Corporation Transport since October 1965. He served a post-graduate apprenticeship with Leyland Motors Ltd. from 1951 to 1956 and joined Manchester City Transport in November 1956. holding a succession of appointments. He was assistant motor bus engineer before his move to Sunderland.

David J. Alford, 36. has been appointed B +I Line's UK marketing manager. Mr. Alford, who joined B ALL I from P.A. Management Consultants Ltd., where he specialized in marketing and general management, will operate from Liverpool for the present.

Edward Bowen has been appointed to the new post of chief officer traffic projects with the Northern Group of Bus Companies. Mr. Bowen has been district traffic superintendent. Newcastle, for six years.

R. T. Knowles, director and general sales manager of Metro-Carnmeil Weymann Ltd., which on April 1 changed its name from Metropolitan-CammellWeymann, from that same date has joined the holding company of the group, Cammell Laird (Metro) Ltd., as controller of group marketing and Warming. Mr. Knowles retains his directorship of Metro-Cammell Weymann: W. H. Lawrence becomes the sales manager.

Francis C. Turner, USA Director of Public Roads in the Johnson Administration, has been named as Federal Highway Administrator in Succession to Lowell K. Bridvveli.

W. M. Ritchie, general manager of Central S.M.T. Co. Ltd. at Motherwell, has retired after 37 years with the company. Mr. Ritchie is succeeded by A. M. Newman.

Michael A. Irving has been appointed manager, Pickfords Ltd. 's Ipswich heavy haulage branch. Mr. Irving was formely commercial assistant. Sheffield heavy haulage branch.

H. G. Baker. since 1955, director and general manager of Brighton Hove and District Omnibus Co. Ltd., had decided to retire owing to continued ill health. Mr. Baker is a past chairman of the Sussex section of the loT. D. Edward Davies has retired after spending 30 years as secretary of transport associations in the South Wales area. In 1939 Mr. Davies was appointed secretary of the South Wales division of the Commercial Motor Users' Association and following the merger of the various national transport associations in 1945 became the South Wales area secretary of the PVOA and the TRTA (now the FT/k).

OBITUARY

We record with regret the deaths of Matthew Boad, Edward Murphy, Tom Rhodes and David G. Whyte.

Mr. Boad, a haulage contractor of Fence Houses (Co. Durham). died in hospital. His family were among the first charabanc owners in the area.

Mr. Murphy, who died in hospital at the age of 74, was a retired Motherwell haulage contractor who started in business as a coal merchant.

Mr. Rhodes, who died at the age of 75, had retired earlier this year to Golfing Power near Cheltenham, after 30 years with the Arlington Organization, latterly as a director and general manager of the Arlington Group of Companies.

Mr. Whyte, who died in hospital in Dundee. was a bus service pioneer. With his brother, Alfred, he took over the Blairgowrie-Perth bus run operated for some time by Hepburns, and also inaugurated the Blairgowrie-Dunkeld run. The Whyte Brothers were the first in the area to hire out charabancs.
