Associations of local authorities and bus operators would be consulted as soon as possible, he added.
Answering a question from Mr. Leslie Huckfield (Labour, Nuneatonl, he said that he had received no specific inquiries from West Midlands local authorities about concessionary fare for old age pensioners since his Department sent a circular in January to the local authority associations.
Mr. Alfred Morris (Labour, Wythenshawe/, whose question led to the Minister's news of the Order, also asked him to find out how many local authorities had used their wider powers to grant travel concessions to pensioners, the blind and others.
But this Mr. Marsh refused to do. The powers of local authorities were discretionary, and their use was not reported to him, he said.
