Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A supplementary pension scheme. agreed between the National Freight Federation (NFC) Ltd, and the Transport and General Workers' Union, fast month received the consent of the Minister of Transport and came into effect on April 1.

The scheme applies to former salaried and wages grade employees who retired from service with the National Freight Corporation, or those of its subsidiaries which were subsidiaries of the Transport Holding Company before December 31 1968, and whose pensions commenced on or before July 1 1967. Widows or other dependants are included but not former employees of the British Railways Board, Freightliners Ltd. or National Carriers Ltd. whose supplementary pensions will be dealt with by the BR Board scheme.

Men and women who have reached the age of 60, or who retired earlier on account of illhealth, are eligible, as are widows who have attained the age of 40.

The amount of the new supplement is calculated as a percentage on the pension currently being paid (including previous supplement) and is scaled to a pension's commencing date. For example, a pension begun before July 1955 earns 18 per cent; begun between July 1966 and '67, 2 per cent. There are safeguards to ensure that no pensioner receives less than 25s a week.
