The Returns for 1928 of the Working of Passenger-carrying Vehicles in the Frepch Capital.

BY the courtesy of M: L. Bacqueyrisse, the general director of the Societe des Transports en Commun de Ia. Region Parisienne—the French equivalent of the London General Omnibus Co., Ltd.—we are able to give some interesting details of the running of the motorbuses in the Paris district during the past year. The company's report for 1928 shbws. that buses are now being run on 96 routes during the clay and on 14 all-night services in the inner and outer districts of the

French capital. • During the twelve months a total distance of .34,391,530 . bus-miles was covered as compared with 33,682.549 bus-miles in 1927, an increase of 2.08

per cent. Included in the foregoing figures are the returns for the 14 night services, the vehicle-miles of which amounted to 175,662 and the number of passengers •carried to 679,679, these representing only about 0.5 per cent. and 0.2 per cent, respectively of the total.

The number of passengers carried is again on the up grade, for whereas, owing to the increased fares, there was a drop of 3,012,066 or about 0.9 per cent. in 1927, the number last year increased from 329,441,596 to 342,868,520, an advance of 4.05 per cent. " There is, however, still considerable leeway to make up,because in 1924 the Paris motorbuses carried a -total of no fewer than 356,529,851

passengers. • , • • • During 1928 the receipts from the operation . of the .company's buses amounted to 230,938,792 francs, which, at the current rate of exchange, amounts to approximately £1,862,400 or about 6.704 francs (about 12.975d. per bus-mile) as against £1,783,547 or 5.79 francs (about 11id.) in 1927.

At the end of 1928 the company's bus fleet comprised 1,318 four-wheeled vehicles, including one trolley-bus, 51 No. of passengers carried
