Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

has replaced its well-liked SP241 trailer tyre with the SP242, which is designed to cope with operation at 44 tonnes. There is a deeper (16mm tread), a new rib design to ensure even contact pressure with the road and a new tread compound to improve resistance to cutting and tearing. A steel breaker under the tread provides resistance to stone penetration while the casing profile is designed to resist lateral scrubbing, particularly on the rearmost axle. The stclewall compound is stronger for better impact resistance.

• Goodyear: has replaced its 385/65R22.5 G465 trailer tyre, which is the company's best seller in the UK. CV tyre marketing manager Jeff Hughes says its replacement, the PHI (for Regional Haul Trailer), will last up to 25% longer, thanks partly to a 23% increase in rubber compared with the G465. The five-rib tread incorporates large shoulders and polymide breaker edge reinforcement with a new bead construction.

• Continental: is beefing up its Barum budget brand. The drive-axle BD22 replaces the all-axle BD2I; the BU53 Universal for quarry and tipper use will be available soon.

Low-profile 55-series steer-axle tyres are becoming more common; Continental has added a 55-aspect tyre to its HSR1 steer-axle range and Michelin's A2 long-distance Energy range now gets 385/55 tyre. Michelin has also developed a 55-ratio steer-axle tyre designed to reduce splashing.
