• TNT Contract Distribution is understood to have won a huge parts distribution contract with Nissan Motor GB, the UK subsidiary of car maker Nissan. The contract will start at the beginning of next year.
NFC's Exel Logistics and Lep Swift competed for the business. NFC handles some distribution for Nissan in the US.
The contract will he for the national distribution of parts to dealers and could involve about 70 vehicles. Parts will be stored at NMGB's 30,000m warehouse at Magna Park, Lutterworth, which is currently being stocked. This will be managed by NMGB staff.
NMGB will officially become the UK Nissan distributor early next year. The current Nissan distributor is Nissan UK, a franchise operation whose contract has been terminated. Nissan UK distributed to 380 dealerships; it is unclear yet how many dealerships the new company will operate. Nissan UK currently has its own transport network. it has a large warehouse at Worthing and runs about 70 trucks delivering parts nationwide and 50 car transporters.
El News International's London retail distribution is being taken over by 11 independent subcontractors this week. Some of the contractors are believed to have offered work to at least 160 of the 460 drivers who were made redundant by TNT Newsfast this month after it lost the contract (CM 12-18 Sept). And at least 70 other ex-Newsfast drivers have been employed within TNT, according to the head of group employee relations George Lawson.
