AS A SUBSCRIBER to CM and a Class 1 HGV driver since 1977, I feel I have a right to comment on the Driver CPC.

Comments raised by the likes of Steve Ellis at the Road Haulage Association really infuriate me (CM 20 October). I quote: “It galls me that we now have a system that treats drivers in the same way as solicitors and doctors” – I wish I had the earning capacity and ability to work the hours these professionals do!

Another infuriating comment is: “I have been doing the job for 30 years. What can I learn?” But vehicle and trafic rules were completely different 30 years ago! And do I know it.

Like every other driver my age, we have all had to change with the times. Does Ellis think we have done nothing in the past 40 years?

In November I am undergoing a ive-yearly medical check-up, and I am seriously considering letting my licence lapse because I cannot see the justiication of paying £500plus to be treated like this.

Comments raised by pen pushers in CM do nothing to help matters.

What can I learn???
