Bedford

J1 SMT Sales and Service Co Ltd 205 Finnieston Street, Glasgow J2 Mackay & Jardine Limited, West Cross, Wishaw J3 Watson Brothers (Airdrie) Ltd, County Garage, 28-48 High Street, Airdrie J4 McIntyre Limited, 11 Port Glasgow Road, Greenock J5 Tomkins Bros (Motors) Ltd, 712 Edinburgh Road, Glasgow and at SMT Sales and Service Co Ltd, 205 Finnieston Street, Glasgow REFINEMENTS have been made to the Chevanne luxury light van for this year's Scottish Show. Bringing it in line with the car from which it is derived, the Chevanne now sports flush fitting headlamps. But of more importance to operators are the fuel economies which Bedford claims to have made to the low compression 1,256cc power unit.

The main changes are carburettor alterations (the Chevanne uses a constant depression carb) and an increase in the operating temperature at which the engine runs. For the first time the Chevanne is to be offered with the GM Strasbourg automatic transmission. In this case the higher compression ratio engine is fitted. Other changes for the 1980s Chevanne are rear fog lamps, different badging and a better heating and ventilation system.

The seats now have greater lateral support and the gearchange movement has been revised. Next to the Cheyenne is an example of the long-serving HA 110. It is the 304kg (6cwt) capacity vehicle and like the Cheyenne has a 1256cc petrol engine.

The CF is very much in evidence both at the Show itself and at SMT Sales and Services Showrooms. All have the revised cab interior which features a new facia and instrument binnacle, finger-tip controls and a capacious parcel shelf. Facelevel vents are fitted to the facia and a textured steering wheel has been added.

Cloth-type seat-trim material and moulded floor coverings are also new. The 3.5 ton gvw CFs at Kelvin Hall are a chassis cab with drop side body, and a panel van. Both have the 2279cc petrol engine. The new trim for the CFs was shown for the first time at Frankfurt.

Outside Kelvin Hall, at the SMT Showrooms, five CFs, a Chevanne, and an HA 110 are on display. Three CFs are 350, 126in wheelbase models with various bodywork
