MI Registrations of trucks over 3.5 tonnes were down 25.7% in April compared with the same time last year, according to the latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

Sales were 4,901 compared with 6,604 in April 1989. Year to date figures were down 18.8%. Leyland-Daf came blasting back from second place to take the lead in the market with a 29.8% share following sales of 1,463 vehicles. But Iveco Ford slumped to a 19.5% share with sales of 956.

All but one manufacturer suffered a fall in registrations MAN sold four more vehicles than in the same period last year, with 201 sales. Scania came in seventh position just ahead of MAN with 206 sales. Seddon-Atkinson took ninth position in the market, its sales, at 138, were exactly 100 down on April 1989. AWD sales were also down at 101, but the company is holding its own in tenth place.

Panel van registrations in the L8-3.5-tonne sector fell by 26.4% in April and by 10.2% for the first four months of the

year.

Ford held its lead but its sales tally of 2,802 vehicles was 13% down on the previous year. Leyland Daf's 200 and 400 Series retained second place with 898 sales, a 41% drop from 1,530 in 1989, but its figures for the first four months of the year were down only 16%.
